STILLWATER – Cailean Mackay, President of Luther Forest Corp., has proposed to develop a section of their real estate portfolio into a business park bordering GlobalFoundries.

The proposed $60 million Luther Forest Business Park, off Luther Forest Boulevard on Shenandoah Drive, would be developed on 62 acres of the Mackay family’s real estate portfolio. Plans include the construction of six buildings, and possibly a seventh, ranging from 45,000 sq. ft. to 166,000 sq. ft, and 30 business suites each totaling 1,500 sq. ft.

The Luther Forest Business Park will share a property line with the 1,414-acre Luther Forest Technology Campus, the home to GlobalFoundries Fab 8. The Luther Forest Technology Campus is a pre-approved space for nanotech manufacturing and research and development (R&D). The intent of the Luther Forest Business Park is to bring even more manufacturing, warehousing, research, and office jobs to the area with the business suites housing landscapers, contractors and other small businesses looking for mixed-use spaces.

Also located in the area is the 280-acre Saratoga Technology + Energy Park (STEP®), that NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research and Development Authority) put up for sale earlier this year after announcing that it has struggled to bring energy-related companies to the park.

Mackay is also the General Manager of Saratoga Lake Golf Club, and the Mackay family has operated a variety of businesses in the area, including the Golf Club, Saratoga Water Company, and a logging operation.

In a 2018 interview with Saratoga TODAY about his family’s history of entrepreneurship, Mackay was asked about what is next for them.

“Luther Park,” he answered. “The simple answer is diversify while maintaining a strong hold on where we come from, meaning our forestry background and sound management of the property.”

Construction of the Luther Forest Business Park could begin as soon as this fall.
